Santa Fe, NM – Conservation Voters New Mexico (CVNM), via its coordinated political action committee CVNM Action Fund (CVNMAF), continues its efforts to build a strong political voice for our air, land and water by endorsing candidates who will work for resilient New Mexico families and sustainable communities. CVNMAF has endorsed a slate of eight state House of Representatives and Public Regulation Commission candidates for the June 7, 2016 primary election.

“For CVNM, each election is an opportunity to move forward in addressing New Mexico’s legacy pollution issues and to support clean air, land and water for all of our communities,” says Ben Shelton, CVNM Political and Legislative Director. “We are pleased to endorse a slate of strong candidates who will represent and work for healthy and resilient families and sustainable communities in their districts.”

CVNM and CVNMAF engage in a thorough endorsement process and endorse candidates based on their conservation records and responses to a questionnaire on topics including environmental justice, environmental health, quality of life, energy, water, land use, transportation, wildlife and wilderness.

CVNM and CVNMAF’s endorsements for New Mexico’s primary election are as follows:

New Mexico House of Representatives
HD 5: Rep. Doreen W. Johnson
HD 25: Christine Trujillo
HD 35: Angelica Rubio
HD 48: Paul Campos

New Mexico Senate
SD 17: Sen. Mimi Stewart
SD 22: Sen. Benny Shendo
SD 36: Rep. Jeff Steinborn

Additionally, CVNM’s vetting process demonstrated that the following candidates are qualified for our endorsement, but do not represent the only conservation choice in their respective race. CVNM and CVNMAF do not issue dual endorsements. We will instead utilize the new designation of Conservation Qualified for these candidates:

HD 21:
Rep. Idalia Lechuga-Tena (Conservation Qualified)
Debbie Sarinana (Conservation Qualified)

HD 38:
Mary Hotvedt (Conservation Qualified)
Karen Whitlock (Conservation Qualified)

CVNM and CVNMAF do not endorse in uncontested races. The endorsements listed above are for the primary election only. General election endorsements will be announced at a later date. For more information on our endorsement process, please visit www.CVNMActionFund.org.
